More than two weeks subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of renowned film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues are still paying respects to the pair.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt prepared to express about his profound loss.
"Sufficient time has passed that I can at last express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, noting that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "When we commenced spending more time together I knew this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the production, adding that he could not remember "one day without joy".
"This story is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the ideal person to helm it," Elwes expressed.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, noting: "To say that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Fellow Artist
In a different piece, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the lead role.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with everyone, and he understood the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles court official ruled to prevent the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the local authorities.
A court order issued a restriction on the investigation to limit the public release of "all case details, evidence and photographs" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The relevant authority had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a record citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
After the tragedy, public personalities offered divergent reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making provocative statements that were met with immediate backlash by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his voice to the detractors last week. Speaking on his program, Rogan described the statements as "disappointing" and implied they revealed a concerning absence of compassion.
Rogan ended by suggesting that an adviser should have acted when the choice to comment on the passing was made.
