'Living a Nightmare': Relatives of Missing Teenagers Await News After Ski Resort Inferno
The families of teens unaccounted for after a devastating fire at a bar in a Swiss winter destination are confronting an excruciating wait for official news and pleading for any details about their family members publicly.
The fire ripped through the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Verified images depict the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.
Officials have indicated that it could take considerable time to identify the victims of the fire, which killed 40 people and injured another over a hundred. Officials noted on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with efforts still underway to identify the final individuals.
In the waiting period, loved ones have been using social media to request any news about their loved ones who were at the bar that night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, 16, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of Lutry near the city, explained to a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but was unsuccessful.
"It feels like a terrible dream, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She continued that some of his friends had been discovered with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they experienced hell."
The Italy's government has indicated that a number of of its citizens have not been located.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is deceased, without mentioning the fire, honoring a "young athlete who represented dedication and authentic values."
His parent, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An representative has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.

Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise unaccounted for. His mother explained that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and found himself at the venue.
"A close friend said they fled after the fire broke out and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his teachers stated, "I remember his kindness and positive demeanor, combined with great responsibility. He would frequently offer to get me a coffee."

Her sibling has posted an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are actively engaged with the case.
