Suspected Harasser Questioned: 'But What If I Am Madeleine?'
A female indicted with harassing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a recorded message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has persistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court heard communication data and information recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported missing child cases and remains open.
'I Do Not Need Money'
One recorded message, shared in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I know I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I believe what I feel."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? What then? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," she added.
The jury was told that through electronic messages, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
The investigator, an intelligence analyst with the police force who compiled the evidence, told the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with family friends of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, the father answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I will persist and I will prove my point."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a visit to the McCanns' property in that area in December 2024.
Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had contacted through communication app to Mrs McCann to express the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the time preceding the trip to Rothley, that area, in December 2024.
